Bullying and harassment training

This half-day course will enable delegates to identify what constitutes discrimination or harassment on the grounds of race, sex, sexual orientation, age, religion or belief, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, marriage and civil partnership and disability.  Attendees will learn how to effectively handle complaints of discrimination or harassment effectively by making use of robust policies and procedures. It will highlight the importance of following policies and provide delegates with an understanding of the implications of failing to follow procedures.

The course will be beneficial to all line managers, supervisors and HR professionals at both operational and strategic levels.

  • Course content
    • Procedures – robust dignity at work, harassment & bullying and grievance procedures
    • Protected characteristics – what are the nine protected characteristics?
    • Types of discrimination – what are the ways in which discrimination might occur
    • Bullying and harassment – what is harassment and what is bullying? What are the differences between the two?
    • Complaints – effectively managing complaints of bullying and harassment informally and formally including good investigation techniques
    • Grievance hearings – how to carry out an effective grievance hearing into complaints of bullying and harassment
    • Liability – who is liable for discrimination and harassment in the workplace
    • Communications - communicating the outcome of a grievance hearing including relevant actions after the procedure has been completed.

    • By completing this course, delegates will:

      • Understand the Equality Act and what constitutes discrimination including harassment
      • Recognise the risks of failing to address the issues of  bullying and harassment in the workplace
      • Understand the practicalities of managing complaints of bullying and harassment informally and formally including investigation techniques
      • Be able to apply their learning to complaints of bullying and harassment.
