Introduction to CNC machine centre milling
CNC Milling Centres use complex programmes to control the machine in order to produce highly accurate parts in repetitive situations. Often these CNC Programmes are created in a separate department but operators and setters still need to be able to create programmes from scratch or amend supplied programmes to ensure that the machine will produce the desired item.
This five-day introductory CNC training course is designed to give delegates the skills and knowledge they need to part-programme, set and operate CNC Milling Centres.

Course content
The course runs over 5 days and covers some underpinning theory. The practical elements will enable the delegates to programme and set a CNC Machine safely and effectively.
During the course the delegates will cover the following subject areas in depth.
- Introduction to programming
- The difference between Conversational and ISO programming systems
- Linear movements
- Circular movements
- Canned cycles
- User cycles
- Speeds and feeds
- Work piece co-ordinate system
- Tool setting
- Tool length off set
- Cutter compensation
- Datum setting
- Test run
- Single block
- Run full sequence
Pre-requisites
Delegates will need some experience of milling and skills and practice in the use of milling machines.
Assessment
Whilst there is no formal assessment on this course, delegates will need to demonstrate that they can operate a CNC Milling Centre safely and effectively. On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.
