Introduction to tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding training
There are many different skills and techniques within the scope of hot working of metals in the broad skill field of welding. Each one of the many and varied welding techniques calls for some specialised skills and knowledge and this three-day practical, hands-on welding course at our Technology Hub in Aston, Birmingham is designed to give delegates the skills and knowledge they need to produce welded joints using TIG welding equipment.
Course content
During the course the delegates will cover the following subject areas:
- Welding theory
- Equipment assembly
- Safety set-up
- Correct amp/volt settings
- Selection of welding tungstens and their application
- Welding terminology
- Welding fault rectification
- Test pieces in tee fillets and butt welds (use of aluminium and stainless steel will incur additional costs for material)
Pre-requisites
Delegates do not require any previous experience of Brazing or Oxy/Acetylene equipment or any other form of welding technique or process.
Assessment
Whilst there is no formal assessment on this course, delegates will need to demonstrate that they can operate TIG Welding equipment and produce satisfactory quality welds during the practical elements of the course. On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.

This course is suitable for maintenance engineers and technicians, and those who wish to use TIG welding equipment. It is also ideal for those who wish to update or refresh their current welding skill set.
This 3 day course has some short classroom sessions to present the underpinning theory of this subject area but is heavily focussed on the practical training in welding techniques.
