External Affairs Manager
UK Steel is looking to recruit an External Affairs Manager to lead its work on external affairs, communications and campaigning activity. UK Steel is part of Make UK, the Manufacturers' Organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Management of UK Steel’s relationships across Whitehall and other relevant political stakeholders. To develop and enhance UK Steel’s ability translate its policy work into practical action and progress
- Planning and delivering press releases as required, editing the UK Steel weekly newsletter, managing relationships with the media
- Working with the policy elements of the team to develop and implement public and political campaigns to maximise the impact of our messages and progress our objectives
- Responsibility for the organisation and management of UK Steel events

Trade & Economic Policy Manager
UK Steel is looking to recruit a Trade & Economic Policy Manager to lead its work on trade, economics and commercial policy, assuming primary responsibility for the development and advocacy of steel sector policy issues in this area. Steel is a highly trade-intensive product and with the UK’s trading powers and relationships set to fundamentally change at the end of the year, this new role will be an important and challenging one of fundamental importance to the future of the sector.
Key responsibilities include:
- The development and advocacy of UK Steel policy positions in relation to trade, tax, investment, infrastructure and the wider business environment
- Production of high quality written material including, briefing papers, consultation responses, in-depth policy reports, website content and press releases.
- In particular this role, working in conjunction with the Director of Policy and External Affairs, will provide the economic and statistical analysis to support UK Steel aims and objectives. Including, the economic value of the sector, the importance of steel to manufacturing supply chains, supply and demand market forecasts, import and export flow analysis, and much more
- You will act as the principal contact with relevant government departments and agencies and industrial stakeholders, building upon existing and developing new relationships
