Introduction to pneumatics including fault finding and diagnostics
Many industrial assembly and production lines use pneumatics as their main source of power to operate a wide variety of doors, lifts and grippers and selectors. It is essential that those employees who work in and around these sorts of systems have some basic underpinning knowledge of the principles of pneumatic powered systems so that they can operate safely around the associated production line as well as carry out some initial fault diagnosis to aid with the maintenance and rectification of the system.
This three-day introductory technical skills course at our Technology Training Centre in Aston, Birmingham is designed to give delegates instruction and practice of identifying pneumatic components, circuit construction, basic fault finding techniques and how to operate safely around pneumatics systems.
Course dates
Course content
During the course the delegates will broadly cover the following subject areas depth:
- Safety
- Basic principles of pneumatics
- Directional control and valves
- Circuit symbols and drawings
- Fault finding
- Cylinders and actuators
- Construction and testing circuits
- Designing and constructing simple cascade circuits
Pre-requisites
This 3 day course is aimed at maintenance personnel, as well as individuals required to work with pneumatics, particularly those who have little experience of working with or maintaining pneumatic systems. The course will cover some basic theory and principles but will also focus on the practical application using pneumatic equipment to build and test simple circuits. Delegates will develop a practical knowledge of component identification, circuit design, function and systematic pneumatic fault finding techniques.
Assessment
Whilst there is no formal assessment on this course, delegates will need to demonstrate that they can operate effectively and safely with live pneumatic equipment and systems. On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.

Career progression:
By the end of this course the delegates will have developed a practical knowledge of component identification, circuit design and function, together with systematic fault finding techniques of a typical industrial pneumatics systems application.
