Take a look inside the Make UK Tech Hub

Walk through the Tech Hub with us, from the welding bays and machine shop to our automation and robotics cell. It’s the next best thing to visiting in person, and a good taste of what you’ll see when you do.

Built around what manufacturers need

Manufacturers need a skilled workforce to succeed, and the Make UK Tech Hub was created to help solve that challenge.

Our purpose-built engineering training centre brings together industry-standard equipment, experienced tutors and employers-led programmes under one roof.

Everything is designed to help apprentices develop the skills that manufacturers need today, and to prepare them to use the technologies shaping the future.

From machining and welding to robotics and electrical engineering, apprentices learn in an environment that mirrors modern manufacturing, not a traditional classroom.

As the national body for UK manufacturing, we work closely with employers to understand the skills they need. That insight informs the training we deliver, making sure that apprentices are ready to contribute from the first day they enter the workplace.

Why not book a visit to the Tech Hub to see it for yourself?

A world of manufacturing under one roof

One of our apprentices described the Tech Hub as “an ecosystem of the manufacturing world”. And that sums it up perfectly.

You’ll find machining, welding, CNC machines, robotics, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) machines, Computer Aided Design and electrical training all operating side-by-side.

The automation and robotics cell is now live, giving apprentices the chance to work with the smart, connected manufacturing technology often called Industry 4.0.

There are 34 technical training sections and 18 IT classrooms within the Tech Hub’s 70,000 sq ft footprint – that’s the size of 25 tennis courts.

The Tech Hub has been running since 2017, when it was opened by HRH The Princess Royal.

Every apprentice who trains here works on industry standard equipment, so they’re ready for your workplace.

A track record you can trust

Make UK trains more than 320 apprentices every year, with over 1,000 currently building their careers with us.

We’re proud of our Trustpilot rating of 4.8, and Grade 2 "Good" Ofsted rating.

Our apprentices go on to become key members of the team with their employers, and steadily rise through the ranks.

Why employers choose the Make UK Tech Hub

The Tech Hub isn’t a college with an engineering department bolted on – training engineering apprentices is our sole purpose.

Make UK is the national body for UK manufacturing, which means that we don’t just deliver the curriculum, we help create the standards it’s built on.

We talk to employers every day about what their businesses need, then we pass that knowledge on to our apprentices.

Our programmes are delivered by tutors with extensive industry experience. They bring that industry grounding into the classroom, with most having spent 15 to 20 years on the shop floor before they started teaching.
