Our approach to Artificial Intelligence (AI)
At Make UK, we are committed to using artificial intelligence responsibly, transparently, and in a way that delivers real value for our members.
AI tools are increasingly part of how modern organisations operate. We use them in a focused and practical way, primarily to support routine tasks such as drafting, summarising, analysing information and improving efficiency. This enables us to work faster and more effectively behind the scenes.
However, AI does not replace the expertise, judgement, or accountability of our people.
Human expertise comes first
All outputs, advice and services provided by Make UK are led and overseen by our specialists. AI may assist with elements of the process, but the final responsibility always sits with our teams.
We believe strongly in a human-led, human-assured approach, using AI to enhance our work, not replace it.
Transparency in how we work
We are open about where and how AI may be used. Where it plays a role in shaping content or outputs, this is done under clear internal guidelines and with appropriate oversight.
Responsible and safe use
Our use of AI is guided by clear principles:
- Accuracy and oversight: all AI-supported work is reviewed and verified by our teams
- Privacy and data protection: we follow UK GDPR requirements and do not use AI in ways that compromise sensitive or confidential information
- Fairness and ethics: we take steps to avoid bias or unintended harm
- Appropriate use: AI supports decision-making but is not used as the sole basis for critical or individual decisions
Supporting our members
Our ambition is not just to use AI responsibly ourselves, but to help our members navigate it with confidence. Our broader AI approach focuses on developing practical tools, services and guidance that combine the power of AI with deep sector expertise.
In short
We use AI to support efficiency and innovation, but our advice, insight and services will always be driven by the knowledge, experience and judgement of our people.
