Professional membership

If you’re serious about your career in health and safety then professional membership is essential. It provides a universally recognised status of your level of knowledge, skills and experience. It also shows that you’re on top of developments as you’re required to complete continued professional development. Employers are likely to use your level of membership as key criteria for your appointment or promotion. Professional qualifications

Competence is vital for a health and safety practitioner and professional qualifications are really the only way you can acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. NEBOSH qualifications such as the NEBOSH General Certificate in Health and Safety and the NEBOSH National Diploma are probably the most widely known but there are other qualifications you can study, such as our Advanced Diploma. If you do shop around you’ll need to make sure they are reputable provider and accrediting body and that it’s aligned with IOSH membership.

Experience and additional skills

Whilst professional skills and qualifications are essential so is the ability to communicate, present, influence and business skills (depending on the level you’re at and where your ambitions are).
