Manufacturing provides 2.6 million well-paid, secure jobs across the UK, and employers are committed to training and supporting young people in their communities.

Make UK welcomes the Government’s focus on tackling the rising number of young people not in education, employment, or training (NEETs) and has submitted a full response to the Alan Milburn “Young People and Work” review, outlining the challenges and policy solutions from an employer perspective.

Key challenges include rising employment costs, limited apprenticeship provision, and insufficient awareness of vocational and technical routes among young people. 

Addressing these issues through stronger apprenticeship support, employer engagement with schools, and carefully considered wage and employment regulations will help more young people access rewarding careers in manufacturing.
