Commenting on today’s PMI data, Fhaheen Khan, Economist at Make UK, the manufacturers’ organisation, said:

 

“Uncertainties about the outcome of Brexit, the general election and continued global trade tensions clearly weighed on the UK manufacturing sector at the end of last year as the downturn gathered pace at home and overseas.

 

“Christmas, and the New Year are a time when people reflect on the past and try to begin afresh. Manufacturers will hope that the next twelve months will see greater bandwidth within Government to focus on a long term vision for the economy as there remains much work to do before industry will turn on the taps of investment.”
