First Aid at Work


This 3-day advanced First Aid at Work course is recommended for those who work in high-risk environments. It provides learners with a comprehensive set of skills needed by a first aider on-site. 

This complies with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to ensure at least one person within your organisation is first aid at work trained.

The course trainers are presently working or ex emergency service professionals, with many years of life-saving experiences. Trainers pride themselves on providing enjoyable, practical and realistic first aid training in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for those wanting to learn first aid skills in high-risk environments, such as manufacturing, construction, sport, warehousing. 

Pre-requisites

There are no specific entry requirements for this course. 

Course content

This course covers: 

  • Role and priorities of a first aider
  • Injuries to bones, muscles & joints
  • Managing an incident
  • Recognition of minor illnesses
  • Responsibilities of employers and employees
  • Recognition and management of major illnesses
  • Causes and care of the unconscious casualty
  • Disorders of the airway
  • Infection control
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Eye injuries, poisoning and miscellaneous injuries
  • Wounds, bleeding and shock
  • Manage the transportation of a casualty
  • Burns and scalds
  • Record keeping and accident reporting
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Chest and head injuries
  • Asthma and diabetes
  • Heart attack / angina
  • Practical demonstration and use of an AED

Duration

The First Aid at Work Training course takes 3-days to complete.

Assessment

Knowledge and understanding is assessed by trainers throughout the duration of the course. 

Outcome / Next Steps

Following successful completion of the course, each student is awarded with a HSE recognised certificate which is valid for 3 years.

Under current guidelines, it is strongly recommended that you refresh your First Aid at Work skills once every 12 months through refresher course.
