On 6th May 2021 elections will take place to elect combined authority mayors in a number of major urban areas across the England. These elections were scheduled to take place in May 2020 and were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They have been re-scheduled to coincide with local elections already set for 2021. This will be the second election in most of these combined authorities, although West Yorkshire will be electing its first mayor.

The role of the combined authorities is of increasing importance to us – particularly their involvement in levelling up regional infrastructure which is of prime importance of Make UK members and the increasingly important role of LEPs as regional economies recover from the Covid-19 pandemic and adjust to a new trading relationship with the EU.

Ahead of this Make UK has produced information sheets for each area outlining manufacturers’ three key priorities for the next mayor as well as the value of manufacturing to the region’s economy and we look forward to working with the new mayors on these priorities after the election.
