About this event

Make UK, in partnership with Ecotricity, launches its Energy Price Report, exploring solutions to high industrial energy costs.

Make UK, in partnership with Ecotricity, launches its flagship report: ‘From Crisis to Stability: A Future Energy System for Manufacturers’, exploring solutions to high industrial energy costs.

The UK’s industrial base is facing a critical challenge. Despite ambitions for economic growth, investment and reindustrialisation, British manufacturers continue to grapple with some of the highest industrial energy costs in the developed world, placing mounting pressure on businesses, squeezing margins and undermining international competitiveness.

The consequences are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. Manufacturers are warning that high energy costs are forcing difficult decisions on investment, production and jobs, with a growing number of companies either moving activity overseas or actively considering doing so.

Industry leaders have cautioned that, without urgent action, the UK risks accelerating a process of deindustrialisation at precisely the moment it is seeking to strengthen its industrial strategy.

Against this backdrop, Make UK’s flagship report aims to look at in detail the UKs energy system, why it isn’t working for industry, the impact of record high energy prices, and what a more stable long-term system could look like.

The event will include speeches along with a panel discussion, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers and experts to explore the scale of the challenge, the implications for the future of British manufacturing, and the policy solutions needed to restore the UK's industrial competitiveness.
