Advanced Fluid Power Using PLC Control

Many industrial fluid power systems require a fine degree of control, whilst still providing the required forces.  Typically these types of systems are controlled by computers and some of the finest levels of control are through using PLCs to precisely control hydraulically powered actuators. The principles used to control the fluid power are used with sensor technology and PLC Programming in this course to provide a good level of understanding of Fluid Power and PLC system can work together.

Course content

During this course the delegates will carry out and develop the following:

  • Understand the principles of flow and pressure control in Hydraulics and Pneumatics
  • Outline a Fluid Power electro control system that would be used in an industrial application
  • Understand how different system sensors provide feedback to the PLC
  • Demonstrate and ability to develop or modify a PLC programme to manage the Fluid Power system parameters
  • Understand and set up a PLC Controlled closed loop (PID) system

Pre-requisites

This Course is aimed at employees who understand the principles of proportional hydraulic and electro-hydraulic principles and have a work knowledge and some practice at PLC programming.

Delegates should ideally have:

  • Be familiar with Electro Hydraulic Systems (level 2)
  • Be comfortable with PLC Programming

Assessment

Whilst there is no formal assessment on this course, delegates will need to demonstrate a basic working knowledge and understanding of Fluid Power, Proportional systems and PLC programming during the practical exercises.

On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.

More details

Career progression:

The course is quite intensive over the three days and is designed to develop and enhance the candidates’ understanding of the principles of proportional hydraulic components, systems and control and PLC programming.

It contains some theory on hydraulics, valve construction and operation and the principles of solenoid operation as well as how to integrate and programme a PLC control.  It also includes practical exercises to demonstrate and explore the elements of integrated Fluid Power and PLC controls.
