Make UK has received a letter from the Secretary of State for Business in response to our concerns around the Government’s decision not to proceed with the publication of a refreshed Industrial Strategy.
The letter thanks Make UK and the wider manufacturing industry for its credible efforts over the past 12 months in response to the pandemic. It highlights that industrial policy remains a priority for Government and that the Industrial Strategy will now transition into the Government’s new ‘Build Back Better: A Plan for Growth.’ Importantly, the letter states that key elements of the Industrial Strategy will be included within the new framework. While the Industrial Strategy Council has been disbanded, the Government has now convened a Build Back Better Business Council, which will support the delivery of A Plan for Growth.
Make UK is extremely pleased to see the Government commit to taking forward parts of the Industrial Strategy into the new Plan for Growth framework. We will continue to work closely with Government to influence and shape the Plan for Growth and support its delivery and ensure that the manufacturing industry remains at the heart of Government’s long-term economic plan.
