Skan Group Holdings, the West Midlands-based private family owned group with current interests including industrial glass, waste handling and defence, has appointed its first non-family board director, as part of its ambitious plans for future development and growth.

Narinder Paul, who has been well known to the family for many years, has been appointed as a Director of Skan Group Holdings and its trading companies.  These include HV Skan, Boughton Engineering and its Oldbury UK division.  Narinder joins the group following a twenty year partner career in one of Britain’s big four accounting firms, bringing specialist strategic and financial experience of family owned businesses at the macro level.

Skan Group Chairman, Roger Skan says, “Our family’s ethos of investing in its businesses for the long term is well known.  Our current businesses are established and successful in the specialist sectors in which they operate.  They are being led increasingly by the next generation of our family … but we must never be complacent and we must always look forward and adapt to the changing business environment.  Our future plans involve the further growth and development of our existing businesses, alongside ambitions which may include further acquisitions.

“It is therefore the right time for us to strengthen our Board with very specialist knowledge of financial and tax planning, mergers and acquisitions and, quite simply, the objectivity which can be provided only through a fresh pair of very experienced eyes.  Narinder Paul is well known to us and we are delighted to welcome him as the first non-family member to be appointed to our Board”.

Narinder Paul says, “Skan Group Holdings has a very family focused but entrepreneurial culture.  Not only is it long established – over sixty years – but it has great plans for the future.  I look forward to bringing my experience of private and family companies to help the business move forward to the next level”.

Narinder Paul graduated with a BSc in mathematics from Nottingham University, before qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1982, being admitted as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1985.  His experience includes audit of private and listed companies, advising on acquisitions, disposals and IPOs and the design of long term strategies to create and protect family wealth for future generations. He retired after twenty years as a partner of one of the big four accounting firms in September 2017.
